Ahoy all!

Today we talk about everyone's favorite topic: 


    Hope you all enjoyed our little prank! I know we got at least three people, though one was our own developer. It's been an exciting time as we make the last push for Alpha! Then it's just a nice soft smooth climb up a ragged cliff to Beta. Even more exciting for me as I`ve had to hide from a few tornadoes. Don’t worry about me, I’m well prepared with my Tornado Fort (patent pending):


    Firstly let me say, I want this game to be played by as many people as possible. It’s a massive undertaking, a personal dream, and something I want to share. But I also do not want to let the dream of all those who have supported us die easily either, a game needs time to develop to find its footing and take root. That means money spent to keep servers running, updates coming, and caffeine/booze for the devs! 

    We will make the game free to play; you and anyone else can pillage, work at shops, buy on markets, participate in public or private events and do tavern games till your heart's content. For FTP players we will have ad support. Before a ship leaves port, short ad, after you win/lose a battle, short ad, entering a tavern, short ad. Ads will be specifically placed to not interrupt play. 
    In addition ads will be available to recharge power ups, increase your “paused” time, and other sorts of bonus depending on your situation. For shop work I want ads to be rewarding, either increasing your scoring or pay, making them not required but a definite bonus to your work.

    
    Another possible revenue would be shard energy, think of it like a character stamina function. This only comes into play for special battles. Kraken hunts, Sky-Crab queen battles, or whatever our equivalent of the Atlantis will be. Players will have 3-5 ‘shard’ energy that recharges daily. This allows them to participate in such events and to respawn if defeated during the events. It will be ‘per event’ not per respawn, so throw caution to the wind! Players can buy either more shard energy, or if they have the season pass/life passes will have an increased number they can use per day. 

    At some point we will have seasons and loot-boxes. Season passes will have rankings and levels with rewards for more and more participation. Loot-boxes are a tried and true way to generate revenue reliably and effectively. It's just a fact of games right now. I will make some loot boxes able to be opened for in-game currency (call the locksmith reference), alternatively you can sell loot boxes on the open market. Allowing players who don’t mind being dressed in rags to add to their finances. This will also allow players who are looking for a specific piece to choose between buying it on the open market or buying a loot box with the possibility of getting it. 

    There will be special, limited loot-boxes that can only be bought and opened with real money. It will require us to make sure what is in the boxes is worth it, which will require a team making those items, so it won’t be right off the launch but it is a goal we hope to approach. Loot boxes will still be purely cosmetic, but will have a much more wild and over the top styles.
