New names, & old faces

Ahoy sky-pirates and aeronautic adventures! While we are working towards our new big phase before we refactor and then do a big art update we wanted to share some business news. We have an official name for the game and have established a new company just for this project!

We have finished setting up our new game development company. We have named it:

      trumpets playing in the distance

RXR Games Studio!

R and R stands for Russ and Rock, or Rock and Russ, depending upon who's asking. Potential Games Studios will still be around for smaller projects, not associated with this effort.

This new game studio will allow Russ and I to better own the work we do together. Also, it will help us get a publisher! Fingers crossed

Speaking of new titles we'll be working under. We`re ready to announce the proper name of the game!

You didn't really think we were gonna leave this game called Project Airbags, did you? We don't even have blimps or zeppelins (yet)! So we spent some time brainstorming and came up with (drum roll please) ….

Not the final design, but you get the basics

I know you have many questions like: How did you come up with such a cool name? Who was the genius who thought of it? Also, what does Empyrean mean?

Let me answer all those questions: Several rounds of brainstorming, the wife of a contributor, and Empyrean means the heavens above and the sky.

Empyrean will serve multiple purposes, not only is it a good synonym for sky, making it thematically appropriate but it also sounds a lot like Empire. So the official name of the former empire in the lore will be The Empyrean.

Empyrean Raiders fit again as the current pirates formed after resisting the Empyrean, by being pirates and raiders of course. see the 'First Queen of the Pirates' post for more details

Puzzles and Plunder is to let people know what sort of game this is. Puzzles are the core of everything in the game.

We'll be working under that title from now on, slowly pivoting to that in all already existing stuff.

Expect a short video of current gameplay as soon as I can get the editing working again. June and July are traditionally very busy so we might not make a lot of progress till August. Our goal right now is getting this dang server stuff to communicate in a secure and expandable way with the existing puzzles and player interface. Which doesn't look like much in the game, but is vital to its function.

Until then fair winds and clear skies everyone!
