The Dream

Image
Ahoy all! The progress has been steady towards our Alpha deployment. As we are tantalizingly close to this first major step, I look to the future. So here’s my dream, should we have a little luck, for what Project Airbags will be in five years time.  Potential Games Studios has become a well known developer studio. After our massive success with airship pirates we were catapulted to international semi-stardom. Representatives from the team travel to gaming conventions and a rabid fan base has developed. We routinely drop new seasons, as well as sprinkle in special events. We have a dedicated team of developers who are in regular contact with some of the most powerful players, we take in ideas and suggestions and create content from it. Our new major development is allowing players to create their own content, giving them tools to create everything from clothing, to weapons, full ships, and islands. The players from YPP have formed a core of players that both helped u...

Shameless self promotion

Image
'Hoy ye scurvy dogs,     Many have expressed an interest in supporting this thing we call Project Airbags. Now you have the opportunity to do so, and you even get a game out of it! See the message from our teammate Eric about it:   Ahoy!      My name is Erik, and I’m one of the founding members of Potential Games Studios. Our name came about because we felt that we had a real potential to have fun doing something we loved and make great games. We all had/have ‘day jobs’, but we wanted to pursue that potential.        Our first big project was Marshmallow Duel on the XBOX 360. We were proud of what the three of us made and indeed had fun doing it!      Now, our goals are bigger!!!      Jump over to our → Discord ← server for what we’re calling Project: Airbags and you will witness the passion and potential for the game we have planned as well as be able to throw in your two cents! Speaking of ‘cent...

How to make enemies and alienate people

Image
An Airbags guide to making enemies and alienating people Posting twice in one month! New year brings all sorts of changes.      Had it with your New Year's resolution? Bitter about the cold indifference of the world or continued existence of other people? In our previous installment we spoke about all the nice things you can do when interacting with others in our planned game. Now it's time to get nasty.       There are times, though rare for me, I've wanted never to speak with or see someone on the internet ever again. Sometimes you can block them from directly messaging you, but in a community atmosphere that's just not a solution. Enter our concepts for keeping those annoying individuals at bay. Please let us know if you spot a way someone could use these to abuse other players. Mute     An unlimited list of individuals whom you have listed from which to not hear chat. Should you be in a group or puzzle chat their contributions will n...

Allies, Enemies, and Carpentry

Image
Pretty wood shavings! ‘Hoy all! And Happy New Year!      Hope you all had a good one. ‘21 was a hell of a rollercoaster for the Potential Games Studios team and ‘22 promises to be wilder  (and personally, starting to date again)! Now that we've gotten a lot of the pieces for a ship together it's time to bind them together in an Alpha. In the next couple of months we’ll get that together.  I`ll shoot another video and you can all listen to my melodious voice, maybe even with guest stars from the team.      Firstly we have made excellent progress on not one, but two woodworking puzzles. All credit goes to CalicoRackham.  The first is classic carpentry, using the pieces and making progress, however our system will allow us to create any sort of shapes and styles we want! We will work towards making some extra large and strangely shaped versions. Pretty good looking right!? The second is called Joinery.  It works like Woodoku, but i...

Swordfight success!

Image
Hoy all! Cannon Badge      Been a busy time at Potential Games and Project Airbags, we have made excellent progress in not only the puzzles themselves but the backend and multiplayer system. Dabick, who is our master sword developer, has been able to work with Russ to create a functioning swordfight! We made a video showing our progress: https://youtu.be/XoAfcauQ_gs      Those who swordfight alot will notice the board is seven wide. This made things fit a bit better on screens and is just one of the many changes planned. You will also notice one of us is much better at swordfighting than the other. It’s Dabick, he plays much much better, but I did make the background prettier.  Sailing Piece      Now's the time to set some expectations. Those that have followed closely may already know this, but we are not making a YPP clone. We are inspired by and enjoyed YPP in the past, but this will be our own game. Some of our puzzles will be s...

A Sky-Pirates life

Image
"Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." - H.L. Mencken *PGS team recognizes the right of women to hoist flags and slit throats     Hoy all! Today we are going to break down some basics of the game; a sky-pirates life! We have laid out three broadly defined stages of a characters career. These are not hard definitions but more like guidelines to think about when you think about what you as a player wish to achieve and have the time to dedicate to.      Sky-pirate - Players will begin their first character as a newly reanimated person on a ship. A tutorial will take them through the basics, then will deposit them at a pirate haven.       From there the pirate will work jobbing on various ships, shops, or sailing with the navy. Ideally they will also join a crew and participate in events and tournaments. Though ...

The Merit System

Image
Ahoy all!      We're hard at work on the Airbags project, things are progressing smoothly. The sword-fighting puzzle is entering the stage where we`re testing for multi-player functionality (no betas yet!). The best news is that a lot of the sword-fighting puzzle will be able to be reused for sailing. i.e; Two connected pieces drop from the top, rotate around each other, and you lose if you block the top spot.     Carpentry has been a slough, personnel issues have slowed down its progress, but it's still well within our estimations for completion. Bilging is progressing well and I hope to complete it and add it to the ship by the end of October.       The main subject of this is a new system we are hoping to develop for the game, and maybe for every MMORPG.  The Merit system! (*trumpet doots*)      What is the merit system? Well it's a representation of your characters reputation, accolades, experience ...
