Alpha of the Alpha

Image
‘Hoy all! Huzzah! We survived our first big test! Just a friendly game, no need for stabbing     Wanted to give a big thank you to our team of developers and all of you following us and sending us your words of encouragement, they mean a lot. We have recently completed our first alpha test of Project Airbags! While a little past my very ambitious deadline, it went surprisingly smooth. Players were able to login, enter names, explore the docks, tavern and ships together and play all the puzzles.  Alpha Results      Our two primary goals were to have a larger number than ever on the servers to test things out, and to have the puzzles reporting to the server which then reported to the ship! On those two parts we succeeded without errors. It did however bring up some bugs. We had a weird occurrence where a part of the screen was unclickable. At one point people couldn’t immediately jump from ship to tavern. Turns out someone forgot to up the player limit from t...

All that glitters

Ahoy all! Today we talk about everyone's favorite topic:      Hope you all enjoyed our little prank! I know we got at least three people, though one was our own developer. It's been an exciting time as we make the last push for Alpha! Then it's just a nice soft smooth climb up a ragged cliff to Beta. Even more exciting for me as I`ve had to hide from a few tornadoes. Don’t worry about me, I’m well prepared with my Tornado Fort (patent pending):     Firstly let me say, I want this game to be played by as many people as possible. It’s a massive undertaking, a personal dream, and something I want to share. But I also do not want to let the dream of all those who have supported us die easily either, a game needs time to develop to find its footing and take root. That means money spent to keep servers running, updates coming, and caffeine/booze for the devs!      We will make the game free to play; you and anyone else can pillag...

Big Changes

Image
We have big news on our Exciting New Partnership!      We're excited to announce that we will be working with Devolver Digital @devolverdigital! They've very generously agreed to help us get this beast off the ground, albeit with some tweaks in direction...  As all of our team members are doing this in our free time, we're looking forward to leaning on their expertise and guidance as we continue on our development journey.           We have already been in talks with their business and development team. Now we have finalized the deal and will be turning over Project Airbags to their internal team.  They have invested $1.1 million in Potential Games Studios and now has total ownership. I have elected to take their generous offer to end my involvement (once the check clears).      We have also spoke at length about some of the product placement and potential add revenue. They want to focus less on th...

The Dream

Image
Ahoy all! The progress has been steady towards our Alpha deployment. As we are tantalizingly close to this first major step, I look to the future. So here’s my dream, should we have a little luck, for what Project Airbags will be in five years time.  Potential Games Studios has become a well known developer studio. After our massive success with airship pirates we were catapulted to international semi-stardom. Representatives from the team travel to gaming conventions and a rabid fan base has developed. We routinely drop new seasons, as well as sprinkle in special events. We have a dedicated team of developers who are in regular contact with some of the most powerful players, we take in ideas and suggestions and create content from it. Our new major development is allowing players to create their own content, giving them tools to create everything from clothing, to weapons, full ships, and islands. The players from YPP have formed a core of players that both helped u...

Shameless self promotion

'Hoy ye scurvy dogs,     Many have expressed an interest in supporting this thing we call Project Airbags. Now you have the opportunity to do so, and you even get a game out of it! See the message from our teammate Eric about it:   Ahoy!      My name is Erik, and I’m one of the founding members of Potential Games Studios. Our name came about because we felt that we had a real potential to have fun doing something we loved and make great games. We all had/have ‘day jobs’, but we wanted to pursue that potential.        Our first big project was Marshmallow Duel on the XBOX 360. We were proud of what the three of us made and indeed had fun doing it!      Now, our goals are bigger!!!      Jump over to our → Discord ← server for what we’re calling Project: Airbags and you will witness the passion and potential for the game we have planned as well as be able to throw in your two cents! Speaking of ‘cent...

How to make enemies and alienate people

Image
An Airbags guide to making enemies and alienating people Posting twice in one month! New year brings all sorts of changes.      Had it with your New Year's resolution? Bitter about the cold indifference of the world or continued existence of other people? In our previous installment we spoke about all the nice things you can do when interacting with others in our planned game. Now it's time to get nasty.       There are times, though rare for me, I've wanted never to speak with or see someone on the internet ever again. Sometimes you can block them from directly messaging you, but in a community atmosphere that's just not a solution. Enter our concepts for keeping those annoying individuals at bay. Please let us know if you spot a way someone could use these to abuse other players. Mute     An unlimited list of individuals whom you have listed from which to not hear chat. Should you be in a group or puzzle chat their contributions will n...

Allies, Enemies, and Carpentry

Pretty wood shavings! ‘Hoy all! And Happy New Year!      Hope you all had a good one. ‘21 was a hell of a rollercoaster for the Potential Games Studios team and ‘22 promises to be wilder  (and personally, starting to date again)! Now that we've gotten a lot of the pieces for a ship together it's time to bind them together in an Alpha. In the next couple of months we’ll get that together.  I`ll shoot another video and you can all listen to my melodious voice, maybe even with guest stars from the team.      Firstly we have made excellent progress on not one, but two woodworking puzzles. All credit goes to CalicoRackham.  The first is classic carpentry, using the pieces and making progress, however our system will allow us to create any sort of shapes and styles we want! We will work towards making some extra large and strangely shaped versions. Pretty good looking right!? The second is called Joinery.  It works like Woodoku, but i...
